HOW IT ALL STARTED
Yessss! Finally I'm having a chance to talk about how my journey to this noble teaching profession all started. Actually, I haven't really had to think about how it all started cos I've been more intentional about "what next" hence, my reasons for starting this blog. However, it is needful to reflect on one's starting point as it makes you become more grateful and full of hope to forge ahead. Today, I'll try to share some of my experiences about my journey to the world of teaching.
I had never thought that I would one day become a teacher, neither did I love the sound of the name "teacher" as a kid. Infact, I was one of those that would say to the teaching profession, "God forbid" ๐
I was only about 16 years old when I was employed in a school for the very first time while working towards gaining an admission to the university. The very first class I taught was Age 1-2 and my first day of work, I remember was so exhausting. I never knew I'd return to work the next day but I did and I'm wondering why now๐ Maybe I really needed that extra source of income at that time 'cos it couldn't have been passion for the job as I was just starting to discover what it really meant to be a teacher.
I was employed as a full class teacher but had to understudy an older colleague for some weeks since I was new in the 'teaching field" as it was commonly called then. I learnt to sing, dance, jump, teach, shout, scream, clean them up and I was a fast learner. Before long, I was known by the Proprietress and became a household name as parents wanted to meet with me to know "who is this Miss Blessing?"
After few weeks of mentoring, I was immediately transferred to a higher Nursery class age 3-4 and that was how I began to realize that teaching was something that I enjoyed and did it effortlessly.
Still in that school after a while, I was moved to some other Primary classes. This helped me in accruing a rich teaching experience during my stay with them.
In my next article, I will be talking about my journey in the Nursery section as compared to the Primary section. I hope to get your contributions too. Thank you..
Your favourite teacher,
Blessing Epum
