WHAT IS THE SOCIAL STRATIFICATION OF TEACHERS IN THE SOCIETY?
It's no longer news that the teaching profession just like so many other professions is evolving and has obtained a paradigm shift through the years. For the 21st century teachers, gone are the days when teachers were relegated to the background and almost ashamed to be recognized by their profession. Teachers are now regarded as Professionals and have formed various formidable associations in recent times to ensure there is continuous improvement in our schools. This has also boosted the reputation of most educators who sought and fought tireless for the recognition of teachers just like other recognized professions in the country.
However, we still see a lot of teachers treated poorly and so many have complained about the ill treatment they've received from different stakeholders of the school. For some, their employers pay poor salaries and owe them for several months. We've seen cases where teachers were being bullied, insulted and demoralized without any form of penalty accorded to the perpetuators who are sometimes stake holders of the school. For some, they have created a social stratification and a myopic view about teachers, hence; classifying them as paupers or commoners.
Well for me, this is a wake-up call to all teachers out there. If you are experiencing any of the situations mentioned above, it's high time you proved your worth. It's time to strategize and do things differently. Let the society see that there is no difference if you are are doctor or a teacher, a lawyer or a teacher, an engineer or a teacher (I hear teachers screaming tell them...lol).
Anyways, dear educators we must wake up to the challenge, we must set the pace for other professions to see and learn from us. After all, we gave birth to all other professions and so we must live up to expectation. It's time to become an upgraded version of yourself. If you are the type that hasn't embraced technology and still glued to chalk and duster, please wake up COVID Lockdown taught so many teachers a lesson in 2020.
Teachers deserve to be celebrated each and every passing day. Let's take in retrospect the just concluded Teachers day celebration done on the 5th of October 2021, I could almost weep for teachers😒😒😅😂 A lot of schools allowed the day slide with nothing significant done to appreciate the teachers who work tireless to put food on the tables of the employers 😂😂 So many employers are always quick to remind their teachers how their pupils put food on their tables. Well, there's also a need to remind ourselves that without these dedicated workforce in our schools called teachers, who uphold standards and impress parents daily, the school may as well fold up.
Indeed I was disappointed how so many schools unappreciated their teachers on "Teachers Day." Just the way other stakeholders of the school are seen as Kings and Queens, teachers should be made to feel that way at least once a year. It really goes a long way.
I'm really proud of a few schools who did something extraordinary for their teachers on that day e.g organizing a picnic fully sponsored by the school, a trip to the cinemas, spa and other recreational centres. I heard of some schools who gave out amazing mouth watering gifts. Wow! that's the spirit 👍 and I hope other schools learn from you quickly🤗
So, lift up your heads Oh teachers! Be proud of who you are and enjoy your role and calling of being the mother of all other professions.

It's a good thought but let's not stop in thinking. There has to be an action to this thought otherwise the status quo will remain thesame and the complain will continue. But the thought is the first step in the right direction.

I encourage teachers to stand tall and act tall when it comes to the profession.
Let other people envy your profession just because you are excellent at it.
