CELEBRATING THE GIRL CHILD

🎉🎈🎈💃Yayyy! I couldn't help but send a post tonight. I mean I haven't sent a post for a few months now but I certainly won't let today pass without celebrating the girl that I am and millions of other girl children around the globe.

I managed to start writing this piece of poetry just before I left for home after work so please bear with me if it doesn't seem so perfect. However, there is a message communicated clearly and perfectly in the poem and I hope we all get to find that message.

A POEM BY BLESSING EPUM

Cute! charming! pretty! gorgeous!

voices sounding like faint echoes

for my tiny ears and squinting eyes.

While struggling with the abrupt changes

more voices came and now louder

Beautiful! elegant! sweet! alluring!

The excitement was appealing

with radiant faces and beaming smiles

I was welcomed into the human race.

Now, what can I say about the human race?

If I had a book to write or a song to sing -words fail me

If I had the  right to choose or the power to change

Then in my cosy domain knitted underneath the sac of my mother's womb would I remain.

Nobody told me about the prejudice in growing up in a man's world 

Nobody told me that I will be described as weak, fragile, and fearful

Nobody told me about the challenges and vulnerability of the female folk

They all celebrated me with joy, gifts, and blessings

Of all three, one remains - The blessing

The blessing of being a girl child who can deny?

Is it in the intrincacy of  figure or the sweetness of the voice?

A girl child indeed is a blessing to the family

She keeps the home and cares for everyone. 

A girl child is a blessing to her nation

She works hard and models good behaviour

A girl child is a blessing to the world at large

She is fruitful, productive, intelligent, and witty.

She has all it takes to unite all nations of the world at her fingertips.

Say a word of blessing to a girl child today.
